WinAppDriver runs exclusively on Windows 10. Upon installation, the tool creates a new directory at C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Application Driver. Before initializing it for the first time, your PC must have the Developer Mode enabled from Windows Settings.
After the initial configuration, you can start testing your application using the newly added tool, or you can run a couple of separate tests using the Sample and Test data available on the WinAppDriver's GitHub page.

To install WinAppDriver, follow these steps.
Run the installer. Select Test Automation Testing on your own computer and install it.
After the setup, select Help > Manual, and you will get the following instructions.
Test data:
As of this writing, the WinAppDriver’s GitHub page is the only place where you can download the test data (for both WinForms and WPF). If you’re willing to be a part of the WinAppDriver community, you can create your own test data, for example, a database with your own tables, and share it with the community.
Please note that the downloadable tests were generated based on the latest version of the tool, so you might have some issues during the initial usage.

The following tips are common to most desktop application automation tools.
WinAppDriver comes with a basic set of drivers, but if you don’t want to download them from the GitHub page, you can use a zip file.
The preferred way of using WinAppDriver is by importing it into Visual Studio or other IDE.
The application does not have a Visual Studio plug-in, as the basic installation includes the drivers and framework and you don’t need to import the WinAppDriver into the IDE.
The new drivers included with WinAppDriver are those for CodedUI test automation.
